91 JDM turbo 13b into 89 GTU (JDM S5 into USDM S4orS5 swap info)
Here is the GTU when I started the project -
Here is the GTU next to jdm front clip, Jspec motor is already in place (I decided to use 88 turboII rims)
----== JDM Swap Info[b]==----
To swap the 89-91 M/T(Manual Tranny) turbo jdm 13b into the 86-91 usdm M/T n/a You will have to swap(at the top of my head):
-engine and engine harness/w ECU(of course)
-Fuel pump/filter
-coil/igniter assembly
-boost sensor
-(I would place the stock electric fan with the turbo engine)
-you are going to have to purchase an accelerator cable off of a us spec turbo(jspec one wont work)
-you will also need to extend one of the plugs on the ECU harness because it will not reach inside passenger compartment otherwise.
-you will need to use a usdm throttle cable as the jdm one is different due to driver location..
-I would swap the radiators(optional) (not needed for 89-91)
-main harness, you will have to pull the dash and some of the carpets(the S4 main harness will not plug into the 90 ecu)changing this will allow you to be able to use the stock turbo gauge cluster and the S5 fuse holder, etc..,(not needed for 89-91 as the harness plugs into the JDM ECU and the turbo gauge cluster is plug&play on S5 n/a's)
(another reason is, on the S4 the alternator connections are on the main harness, and the S5 the alternator connections are on the engine harness)
-The differentials(I swapped the complete rear end)
-the driveshaft
-tranny
-change the exhaust
-change the brake calipers and rotors(optional, but highly recommended)
-the hose/tube from the brake booster (as the hose on the jspec is shorter because of the brake booster's location
I could have forgotten something but I think thats all needed to swap a S5 jdm into a S4 or S5 usdm.
swapping a S4 13bt (turbo) motor into an S5 is similiar just instead of putting in the s5 harness and such, put in the S4 stuff.
optional for 86-88 swap: I Would definately swap exterior stuff too, front and rear bumper cover, tailights, foglights, Trim, flash-to-pass lenses(as the jdm one's have built in lights), front bumper to allow placement of the stock foglights and of course in the interior carpets, seats and steering wheel.
Hope this helps!! Happy Swapping
