worth it?

So my friend is trying to sell me his 1997 prelude type sh to me for 500 dollars haha..

Its a salvaged title now cause his hood flew up and smashed his wind shield..

The bads:

Needs a new hood
Needs new windshield
Needs new exhaust (it has like some ghetto exhaust type of shit on it)
reverse lights need to be fixed
Cracked right front fender
Some interior shit is broken on the steering column
Needs new tires
Might be leaking some power steering fluid
Andddddd worst of allllll, the it is super hard some times impossible to start during the cold portions of fall through spring. but in the summer it runs well.

So in your opinion is it worth it?

do all the work urself and flip it.

Preludes still catch a good price.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Ive worked on the care with him already so its not like I havent seen it before. I think it has some high mileage though like 170K..

hows the engine and tranny?

The engine feels strong, compression test shows the same in all cylinders. Tranny shifts smooth and doesn't grind.

I think last time we ran a compression test he ran 180 somethin around that across the board.

well idk how much id be able to get out of it when it doesnt have a hood or windshield and the ghetto exhaust pipe. When he lets me know ill take a few pics and you'll see what i mean

i would pay 5 bills jus for the tranny and engine...its an h22...i paid 3g's for my type r k20 swap wit tranny....buy it and ill give u 6bills for it...

on the steering column - plastics are cheap, it's just hard to find them. PNP,Ebay, CL is ur best friend for these parts.
Needs new tires - this varies, but cheap all season can be had for about 150

your retarded.. get it. sell the motor for 1500, sell the tranny for 300. part out the interior and suspension.. make about 3g's off of it and buy yourself a super hyphy doridori mobile like you've been wanting.

Do you think i could get more just buy repairing it? the hood and windshield for a couple bills, then try to craigslist it. some kids would still buy it in the condition its in for a couple Gs

you'll be lucky to get 2500 for it on craigs that's not really a beloved model. but u'll never know... i mean do some research to see if it's worth the project.

honestly, buy it for 500..that's a steal, no matter what route you go, u
WILL make a profit.
Now this is just from my experience with cars, I don't really know what
the exact market value for a prelude is but yeah, this is just to give u
a general idea of what to expect.

If u leave it as is and try to sell it, u might make about a grand or
so? I really don't know, because the car is in a bad condition and it really is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.


If you buy and FIX IT to good running/cosmetic condition, you will spend some money and effort. This is just from my quick CL, KBB, ebay, research but a prelude can fetch around 3-7k.

If u were to buy it and part it out..u'd spend pretty much..NOTHING except the cost of the car. Like Sambo said, the engine and tranny alone can get around 1800...All the other stuff will just add onto ur profit.. The ONLY downfall with parting out a car is that not everything sells at the same time. So you might have to just strip it and just store all the misc parts until someone buys it. It might take a few days to get rid of everything, it might take a few MONTHS...heck, sometimes it can take longer..

ie. I had a crossmember and it took me over a year to sell it but when i sold it, it sold it for twice what i bought it for..so yeah.

Other option would be to fix it to running condition and trade it for some thing else. Basicaly the idea behind that is to trade it until you get the car you want.
