NEW MOVIES
this is where i (and the rest of you) can post interesting upcoming movies to watch out for.
starting with....
AKIRA!!!
Via Twitch:
"It’s been rumored for years and it’s finally coming: Katsuhiro Otomo’s legendary Japanese sci-fi epic Akira
is soon to be remade as a pair of live action films. Leonardo DiCaprio
is producing. Ruari Robinson will direct. The setting moves from New
Tokyo to New Manhattan, with each film based on three volumes of the
original six volume manga which means that despite the location shift
for North American audiences, the longer run time means that these
films may hold closer to the source material than did the Japanese
anime version. The first film is due in 2009."

Re: NEW MOVIES
I've never been impressed by the whole "anime-into-live-movie" thing. They tend to fuck it all up.<<<<This is Danielle BTW i'm too lazy to log in.

Re: NEW MOVIES
nah, initial d was way trashed... the driving action was good, but the story line was confusing to newcomers and south pole to those who know the anime.

Yea, Initial D was a bad make. Could have been way better, tho seeing the trailer for Speed Racer don't make it look to hot either but I will have to see it regardless...

Re: NEW MOVIES
oh, i was thinking about it today at borders... Akira, the anime, sucked ass compared to the comic. the manga was more than 8 volumes of 400 + pages each. the movie, while coherant, was good, it did not do justice to the actual storyline that took over the course of a few years.

Re: NEW MOVIES
I think Nana takes the cake in terms of best transition between all 3.
we'll see about akira, but... akira wasn't even alive in the movie the most powerful boy on earth never made an appearance.

i totally agree, i bought the movie and watched it then read the first 2 volumes of the manga..and if i remember right by the end of volume 2 it equaled to about 3/4 of the movie..
oh yea...can anyone explain the ending of Akira to me?...i didnt understand what they were talking about...its been a while since ive seen the movie but man..i was like this when i finished watching it.

the people with power, made a new universe. haha. still doesn't make too much sense eh? i re-read the Akira manga lately, and i finally understand it now. tons of taoist-buddhist mumbo jumbo in it.

I hope the batman movie will be as good as the first one.. though with sequals..it usually isn't..
it's almost like a filler.

Re: NEW MOVIES
i just finished lust caution. its not.. soft. haha. tho its possible to almost call it softcore porn in some scenes.
um. i really don't know what to say. its not a love story, its not.. a war or spy flick. its a story that kinda ask the question of how far can a human go while still being human?
what i DO love about it is the technical side of the movie, the grainy effect, the setting, (1940s-50s shanghai omg) the camera angles, the lighting. and like.. the protrayal of being human. of lust. of being paranoid. of being broken.
a lot of the themes of the movie can easily just soar past the viewer if they just look at the characters, but by seeing how imperfect they are, you see how really well done the movie is.
two thumbs up!
