Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
man o man. gay guys are cool they leave all the girls for the single guys, and lesbians i cant hate cuzz i'm a lesbo stuck in a man's body.. saying yes to 8 is a down right taking away ppl human's right. i mean it's not long ago that christianaty was a crime punishable by death. interacial marriage was down right against the law. now the same ppl which fought for their right to be themselves are denying perfectly good ppl to be themselve, kinda hypocritiacal. there's been gay ppl since there was cavement, it's about time accept them, and stop being scared of things we dont understand. now let's let freedom ring.

this is how I feel... ITS ONLY AN OPINION and is in no way shape or form affiliated with or the opinion of the209forums.com/209forums.com.
god made adam and eve not adam and steve.... I have nothing against gays, they seem to have character.... but allowing them to catagorize there relationship as "MARRIAGE" not right... nope... call it something else... GAYRIAGE, WOMRIAGE, MANRIAGE just a few examples...

Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
that's a awesome idea dom. you should start a bill and send it to the state capitol. ( no i'm down right serious ). i mean.. name is somthing else, as long as they have all the functions as a normal marriage. i mean gay ppl need the goods and the bads of a marriage to0o. like divorce and all the splenders that come with that.
cuzz the word marriage is for white/black people for a ceremony with the aproval of GOD.
anyways god idea, you should write a email to the state senate and label it comprimiseing prop 8.
i would like to think there is no right or wrong answer to this thread, just state what you think. and dont try to convert anybody.

Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
well prop 8 is more than just about having to be labeled married.
the main, i think, of this is that they ( the gay people) want to be legally married so can reap the benefits of marriage, such as insurance, tax breaks, and all that stuff.. I personally still think marriage should only be between a man and a woman but that's just me. Its like if they were to just allow all the advantages/disadvantages with just a domestic partnership, then i dont think people on either side would be fighting this hard for it.

I agree with L in that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Otherwise I dont' mind gay people, just as long as they don't bother me jk

Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
I agree with L and Dom haha. I believe Marriage is between a Man and Woman. And if gays were allowed to be married, then it should defined as something else and just allow them to get the same tax breaks as a married couple. I just believe the definition of marriage is b/w a man and a woman.

Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
in my class in the bay, i got.. like... 20 people.
majority of them are women, and like 4 guys, including me.
2 of the guys are gay, 1 guy is married, and i'm hetro despite all the teasing.
the 16 women, about 6 of them are gay.
my exposure level and all kinda changed my tolerance and points of view,
but in general, i don't give a flying rat's ass. if they want legal recognition and the financial reasoning, then upgrade the domestic partnership status.
in many languages, the word marriage inheritly implies heterosexuality. homosexual unions have a different linguistic root and point of view. the chinese character for marriage implies a man and a woman.
but i left it blank cuz i don't know if its worth the trouble of the repurcussions of the decision one way or another. i personally feel like the topic shouldn't even been brought up.

Just because you both have the same parts doesn't mean two people who love each other cant marry. Being gay isn't any different then being straight. Your in a relationship with another person. Its that simple.

Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
yes there is . like maryland. but why do they need to go all the way to the east coast just to get married. and another thing. not that i'm for it but, the united states says it against the law to marry your family or close to ken, but shit european been marrying into each other's fortune forever, and if that's not wronger then gay marriages then let's just nuke this dam planet. i agree with dan. this subject should have never been brought up. and by not voting for that certain ballet would just mean that your neglecting your right as a usa citizen.
imo, we need to dump the president and elect a king.

that's just a lie they use to scare ppl to vote yes. they dont even teach about str8 marriages in school why the hell are they gonna start teaching about gay ones.
if only they're guidelines to marriages in school maybe this country would have more complete families.

Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
I don't get the whole teaching gay marriage thing. I don't remember being taught about normal marriage in school... Why would they go into kids classes and tell them its alright for jimmy to marry jack? It doesn't happen, so why would it start now?

Re: Yes/No on Prop 8?
i don't know how you guys went about this, but gay people already have civil union rights which are almost in all aspects the same as marriage, except in name.
and as far as not being taught in schools...
http://www.sacbee.com/111/story/1329831.html
although...
but lastly...
so it's all up to you on how to interpret this issue. the way i see it, it may not be required to be taught in school, but it cannot be avoided. i would prefer my kid (or future kids ) to avoid this subject completely, and ask me directly when it reaches his/her attention. just like when we go the letter that the school will be teaching sex education to justin's class later this school year, we gave him a "prequel" talk about our opinions and explained that it's up to him to come up with his conclusions and not to follow what everybody else's idea of "cool"... yes, i wouldn't mind if my kid finishes college as a virgin.

Massachusetts, where gay marriage has been legal since 2003 and the issue is being taught in schools.
although...
The state education code, they note, barely mentions
marriage. When it does, it refers to teaching "respect for marriage and
committed relationships" in generic terms and "the legal and financial
aspects and responsibilities of marriage and parenthood."
But marriage instruction is not required because California
is "a local control state," and the decision is left to school
districts. Moreover, state law requires schools to inform parents before sex or other sensitive issues are discussed.
but lastly...
Schubert said gay marriage is already taught in some schools,
citing a case in which first-graders in San Francisco attended the
wedding of their lesbian teacher that was officiated by Mayor Gavin
Newsom,
so it's all up to you on how to interpret this issue. the way i see it, it may not be required to be taught in school, but it cannot be avoided. i would prefer my kid (or future kids ) to avoid this subject completely, and ask me directly when it reaches his/her attention. just like when we go the letter that the school will be teaching sex education to justin's class later this school year, we gave him a "prequel" talk about our opinions and explained that it's up to him to come up with his conclusions and not to follow what everybody else's idea of "cool"... yes, i wouldn't mind if my kid finishes college as a virgin.
