Re: Photographer's Thread
Ok, I'm under serious considertion of buying a quality camera. Through my research I continue to come back to the Nikon D60 as I believe it would be great for a beginner such as myself.
Jesse, Wu, and Dio what do you guys have and what do you prefer in a DSLR? Your input is much appreciated.
Btw, Jesse what did you do with the camera you had before the D90? I noticed it was a Nikon D series but which number was it?

Re: Photographer's Thread
D60 is a great entry level camera. Before the D90, I had the D40x. I believe Wu still uses the D40. You can't go wrong with the D40/60 series cameras. Dan uses a D40 also. (the D60 is the D40x replacement). I still have my D40x, but its my backup camera now. (or 2nd camera at weddings).
If your on a budget, I've seen D40s on craigslist for pretty cheap. Just try finding one with low shutter count.

Re: Photographer's Thread
the only drawback to a d40(x)/d60 camera is that you can only use AF-S lenses (or whatever compatible aftermarker lenses). You can use older nikon/nikkor lenses but you lose the autofocus function. It's because the autofocus motor on these cameras are on the lens itself compared to other cameras, say the d80/90/300 etc, where the motor is on the camera body. This is what makes the d40 and d60 have a smaller body.
The reason I went with Nikon (i started with a n65 film camera) is that it felt "right" in my hands. I read reviews just like you're doing now, and I basically narrowed it down to Nikon, Canon, & Pentax. Went to a camera store and tried it on, per say.
Canon has always been known for their camera sensor and Nikon is known for their lenses. But I think nowadays, it's pretty much an even field.
User preference, basically. Canon/Kodak/Nikon/Pentax..... GM/Honda/Nissan/Toyota.
Go to a store and play with cameras. See which one is easier to navigate with the controls. Good luck and let us know which one you decide to go with.

Re: Photographer's Thread
If your looking for an affordable beginner camera NIKON is the way to go. I personal have a canon 30d, and have been using canon products ever since I've started. I use to own a canon xti 400d then my ex burnt it(fucking bitch) but that was an awsome camera especially with a 50mm f/1.8. I personally prefer Canon over Nikon any day of the week but I must say with the new updates that nikons coming out with i'm really impressed. If you do get a nikon I would sugest buying it from best buy and get that protection plan they offer. Sure its going to cost more but I can name a countless amount of people who had problems with nikon products.

^she told me that story holy crap dramatics, she is a bitch aha
My friend drex just bought a d90 from costco 12 hundred, but he says its extremely well. Hes had no problems lately probably bring him and his camera on the 24th so we can have some extra pictures.

Re: Photographer's Thread
Yeah my dad has an old film canon, not sure what model, but from what he always told me is that Nikon was the top of the line... But I will have to go to a camera store and see what suits me. Any preference or stores that are known for their camera expertise?

Re: Photographer's Thread
I'm surrounded by Nikon users...and they are solid products. I've never heard any problems. Wu is right about the slight drawback of AF-S lenses. But, quite honestly, if your entry level, and not looking for anything crazy, there is more then enough AF-S lenses to satisfy you.
IMO, when someone picks Canon or Nikon, its usually only cause they know people with Canons or Nikons. Both are solid cameras. Like Wu said, goto the store, test drive and feel whats best for you. You cant go wrong with either.
This was taken with a AF-S lenses!! hahaha

Re: Photographer's Thread
like i had previously stated, picking a camera is user preference. best buy, circuit city and any other electronic store has the entry level camera you're looking at. but if you want to check out camera stores, go to gluskins, wolfe/ritz camera.

Re: Photographer's Thread
I too am also surrounded by Nikon users and the majority of them had some type of problem, hell even lucky's camera had problems. didn't Gluskins close down? I think you should do what Wu and Jesse suggested and go to best buy, circuit city ect. check one out see how it feels and what not, But if your still not sure you can do what my buddy did and borrow one. http://www.borrowlenses.com/welcome
he rented a d700 for 3 days before he purchased one of his own. Kinda pricey but then again the camera is worth a lot. I've rented here once and was satisfied. So maybe this can be an option for you.
