i've always tried to keep my rpms between 3 and 5 depending on up or downhill... in third...mainly coz there's enough powa in that range for the uphill which is what my main concern is.

I keep it around 3.5 - 5.5, only time the motor gets any power.

Plus, you'll get to see all drivetrains in action and experience them too if you ask to ride with them. Then again, autocross and touge can't be compared, too different. But it's still interesting to see.
Oh, and don't drift intentionally just to look cool. They'll either give you a lecture after your run or red flag you and tell you to stop and give you a DNF for that run. I didn't get yelled at for my spinout last year, they actually enjoyed it
yea i know i rode with brett twice and the second time the dude kept yelling "your done your done!" lol

Learn what you can the way your car is now (layout doesn't matter in the beginning stages). Everyone's driving style is different. You'll develop your own faster if you do it that way and make the adjustments from there (suspension, power; to suit your style) Don't just mod your car right away because it slows down your learning process. Take it one step at a time. You'll gain a better understanding of what you need to do to your driving or the car to improve it and one minor upgrade will be like night and day (the difference between stock and a slight modification will be very significant). You don't want end up like this:

lol that is a wierd comparison tho. of course a ff isnt gonna be able to do a gymkhana. not enough control. but that is totally different from touge. touge is mostly grip. gymkhana is drift/autocross.

touge is not mostly grip or drift.....
Touge...is a Noun...not a verb.
I know people say " lets go TOUGE"....which translates to "Lets go MOUNTAIN PASS"...which doesn't make sense if you say it in English, but it's a common enough word that everyone knows what we mean.
I'm not trying to be a dick...but it's just one of my pet peeves when people don't use the right word when saying something..
the gymkhana was mainly built for RWD cars. It has nothing to do with an FF car not having enough control.

hehe, I hear you on the word usage. problem is most people don't know the literal defenition into english. I wouldn't have thought about it till you said that, I just knew what people meant when they said touge, so don't be too hard on us, WE JUST LEARNIN, lol

Re: Fwd awd/4wd Rwd Mr touge
Any layout can do gymkhana (involves precise car control), they just have different ways of doing it. As for "touge" driving, the layout is dependent on the driver. If you're curisous to know which layouts excel higher than others here are some examples:
Can you name an FF car in the "Super Car" category? (Doesn't mean it's a bad layout)
Formula 1=MR; still rear-wheel drive, but has more balance than FR
WRC=AWD (however there are FF and FR classes)
Le Mans=FR, MR, FMR, RR (P1 category is dominated by MR)
NASCAR=FR
Top Fuel Drag Racing=MR
Champ Car, IRL=MR
Unless you're going to further expand your ability through any of these categories, layout doesn't matter. Whether you're participating in club events (SCCA, NASA, etc) or drift events (FR only), which most of us at the most will do, it's all fair game because the car is only as good as the driver.

this is more like the post i was tryin to write and got deleted when i clicked "send".
so just drive your shit and learn your car the way it is. i can't stand it when people say, " oh i can't run this or run that cuz my car is too stock." gtfo here. just drive your shit and learn to control your car the way it is. once you mod it, then learn it again once you've added modifications. Just get plenty of seat time and drive everywhere.
