drift vs drag pros and cons..
well. me and MthaFuknGreen. are going back and fourth between the fundamentals of drag vs drift..
so far.. we have established.. that..
drag racing..
structure of vehicle is made to withstand forces on the survivability of the vehicle.
motor needs rebuild anywhere between 40-50 runs
tires dont need changing after every race
there are more but i'll add them later
drifting..
new tires after every race
motor rebuild after a certain amount of races
structure of body needs to withstand drifting pressures
ect... will also add more later..
now .. what is the pro's and cons vs drift and drag

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
also.. i have experience in almost every form of drag racing only one i havent gotten into would be a rail car and some forms of funny cars.. the fastest time i have ever done was a high 7 at rockingham nc drag track. in a small block 350, put in a drag built s10. the truck was built from the ground up.. everything pretty much poly tubing, lexasn, and sheet metal.. with a billy bad ass motor pumping a 500shot of nitrous into it with open headers and a nasty cam. going patato, patato, patato lol.. so drag racing i know..
drifting on the other hand.. i use to own a 95 nissian 240sx lol.. with the ka24 in it.. and it could do donuts and get the ass end pretty loose.. so other then that. drifting is aliean to me.. just thought this would be a good topic to discuss

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
but its not necessary to power shift while drifting.
its not necessarily necessary in drag racing either.. but is far more useful in drag racing.

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
why when most high horse power drag cars are automatic.. and the trannys are built to withstand that kind of power..

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
depends on how deep your pockets are.. and nothing is bulletproof.. i dont give a damn who says it.. they are full of shit.. in any application you can only build to a certain extent .. and that depend on how deep your pockets go..
for example a damn good setup.. for a v8 drag car would be using a chevy motor mounted onto a ford rear end.. because the ford 9" rear end is a damn good built rear end.. it is rejected by the hardcore ford guys and by the hardcore chevy guys.. but personally the people that bennifit from building drag cars have no loyaltys to any brand.. they work with what works.. like for example.. a 240sx you think good drift car.. i think lightweight, sturdy, drag car.. slapping a built small block 350/big block 454 or some other large v8 like a twin turbo ls2 into a 240 is better then many other setups.. so a 240 or a s2k would be excelent drag cars.. but most think they are stricktly drift cars.

i think youd get along well with my engines teacher.
lol
but i would never consider an s2k or 240 a strictly drift car.
but i know theyd be good for it.
and i know that you cant ACTUALLY bulletproof a transmission..

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
as in driven on the streets?
i dont think so.
but i have seen a 9 second car.
and one of the mechanics for it was telling me about how he had a little over an hour to pull the transmission, rebuild it and put it back in because it blew at the end of the first race.
then one axle broke, then the other.
whats it useful for?

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
well, he's from the South and i know the guys down there are mad about drag racing..I mean, i went to SC once...fuck..talk about straight line..I was in my cousins 94 stang...That shit pulls like no other. The closest thing i've felt to that much power here was my friends EVO...which ran like 11seconds.
drag cars vs drift cars are generally built the same right?
You want a lightweight car, a strong engine,a body that is rigid enough to withstand the force, and a durability.
Your still going to break majority of the same things and have to replace it. Other than that..
There is no 'better.'
I think the only real difference is the drag car will pull you to your seat while the drift car will pull you towards the doors!

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
there are many 9 sec street cars.. most of them you would be paying about 100k+ but some of them are pretty cheap. one of them would be a gnx , not to mention some corvettes and camaros, and some mustangs.
im not saying every 9 sec car is a street car.. it all depends on the person building the motor/car but yep axles break, trannys blow, it happens when racing.. just as it might happen in drifting and im sure it happends alot more then you would think in drifting.
it's just that drag racing is a strait line and people think it's nothing but that. but grudge racing is where it's at.. 2 people 2 cars first to the end for money. it's like horse racing on speed/crack/coke/and every drug wrapped into a few sec's of extecy

"leaning to the side with one hand on the wheel is tricky"

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
oh yeah, another difference is...
and correct me if i'm wrong and this pertains to ONLY FAST cars.
Drag racing uses more gas?
I remember hearing it ..." my car does about...5 gallons to the mile" from one of the top fuel draggsters.
I forogt what city..but i think it was Easly or something like that..it was a long time ago.

yep but that depends on alcohol , bio, methanol, and the others. but yea lol.. for like 1/4 of a mile they get like 5 gallons lol.. but damn it.. for the ride you take it's worth it.. we dont buy gallons we buy barrels lol

Re: drift vs drag pros and cons..
grip is similar to drag racing...you try to go as fast as u can from point A to point B. only difference is that there are TURNS...it's Circuit Racing:)
